HOW I CAN WORK WITH YOU:

As an independent filmmaker, I often work as a one-man crew, as was the case for my first feature documentary, Journey to Hokusai. I have my own film equipment and editing suite. BUT I also collaborate with other Bay Area professionals on bigger projects. I can scale my service based on your project. I can also assist with any Japan-related projects.

BIOGRAPHY/FILMOGRAPHY:

A Japanese native, I started my career as a production assistant in New York, and spent over 20 years as a freelance Director and Cinematographer for various Japanese television networks, including NHK, Japan's public television.

I also spent five years in Hawaii as a Producer/Director on documentaries and commercials, including a number of videos for DFS Hawaii, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and the University of Hawaii.

In 1997, I moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where I was a principal collaborator on 14 independent films with Rob Nilsson, a Berkeley-based Sundance/Cannes award-winning filmmaker. I also worked as Cinematographer/Editor for Link TV on the Peabody Award winning news show, the Mosaic and the Mosaic Intelligence Report, a news analysis show on the Middle East.

In 2019, my first feature-length documentary, JOURNEY TO HOKUSAI was screened world-wide. Since 2020, I have closely worked with FIRE SAFE MARIN to produce educational videos on wildfire safety. My new feature documentary, KINOBU - Food, Tradition, and Identity, has just been completed and submitted to film festivals around the world. Keeping my fingers crossed!
